On Friday the 27th October 2023, Dakabin State School students were invited to wear red for “Day for Daniel”. This event is held annually on the last Friday of October. Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. This is a very special day for all Australians to wear red, educate and donate. Parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety.
This National Day of Action advocates for safer communities for children and empowering them to Recognise, React and Report when they feel unsafe. Classes throughout DSS learnt about how they can be safe.
Year 1A listened to “Getting help with Little Red Riding Hood” and learnt how to Recognise, React and Report unsafe situations. We then learnt about our safety helpers and identified 5 adult helpers that we can speak to if we had a problem. We learnt that these helpers must be adults and should include someone who lives at home, males and females, as well as people who live outside the home.
