This month the Dakabin Legends and our extended community came together to raise awareness and money for Jeans for Genes Day- a very important and great cause! The Jeans for Genes campaign raises awareness of the daily challenges faced by those living with a genetic condition and raises money to fund projects that make a difference to the lives of those affected.
On the 4th of August we participated in a dress up day and bake it blue events where we all wore our best denim outfits and enjoyed lots of tasty blue treats. A big thank you to Jaynie in the tuckshop for making the blue cupcakes and jelly cups! While the students enjoyed their blue treats the staff feasted on all kinds of blue foods and drinks- we had cakes, mocktails and even blue hummus!
Throughout August and the lead up to the dress up day the students have commited to 100 skips a day and have been learning all about why it is important for us to raise these funds and what Jeans for Genes Day is all about. Many of the students began showing huge amounts of empathy and concern for the many children suffering from genetic diseases and began feeling extremely grateful for the lives they live!
A big thank you to all of the donations already made, Dakabin State School is sitting 8th on the leader board out of the 325 schools that got involved in the campaign and so far we have raised $2,359.00. Donations are still being accepted until the end of August and it is wonderful to see the children still coming along each day to get their 100 skips completed.
