Year 3's were very lucky to have a Scientist from Street Science come to school for a very cool show and experiment.
Heat energy was the focus of the Year 3 show, exciting students with a range of fire and liquid nitrogen-based demonstrations to explore how heat can be produced, transferred between objects and have dramatic observable effects on materials around us. Some of the highlights was seeing the tennis ball and balloon explosions.
Students then got to complete experiments to see chemical reactions to feel and measure, using thermometers, how heat can be produced and absorbed. They then tested different materials’ ability to conduct thermal energy and allow state changes. The students used digital thermometers to measure and record how much heat was absorbed or produced in two chemical reactions. During this experiment they spoke about many safety precautions they needed to do while being a scientist.
